On October 16th 2016, at the Civic Archaeological Museum of Chianciano Terme, the General Assembly of the Phoenicians’ Route took place, with the participation of delegates representing the members of the International Network Confederation. After presenting the state of the art of the route (the Council of Europe evaluation process, the Core Working Group of the World Tourism Organization, the situation of the member networks, etc.) the 2016-2018 program of activities has been discussed and the President pro tempore of the 2016-2018 period, prof. Giovanni Brizzi has been elected.
Main results of the meeting have concerned the Governance of the Network and the Route. Selected cities will benefit from a high visibility at international level, thanks to communication activities promoted by the Phoenicians’ Route and the inclusion in specific projects, but at the same time, they should commit to organize the activities that are agreed each year with the Route. It was also set up an annual Route event to be held annually on the first week of April and called the Ancient Mediterranean Days. Many events were agreed. The next General Assembly, X Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue on the Phoenicians Route, 2017, will be held in Jaén (Spain) in October and it will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Cultural Routes of CoE program. The Exhibition “Hannibal. A Journey” in 2017 will become a traveling exhibition in the Mediterranean countries belonging to the Phoenicians' Route.
